Let God Breathe

Let God Breathe

The world does not need another program. It does not need another conference. It does not need another polished sermon or another emotional song set. It needs the breath of God. It needs the wind of Yahweh to breathe again, not just around us, but through us, in us, within the sons and daughters who have dared to become the resting place of God. Let God breathe.

In the beginning, the earth was formless and void. Darkness covered the face of the deep. Chaos had no boundaries. And then Genesis 1:2 says, “The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” The Hebrew word there for Spirit is ruach — breath, wind, life. Creation did not begin when God spoke. Creation began when God breathed. Before there was let there be light, there was the brooding of His breath. Before there was order, there was hovering. Before there was motion, there was presence.

Too many are trying to speak when they have not yet been breathed into. You are trying to form your future with words when your lungs are still full of fear. You cannot release what you have not inhaled. You cannot speak as a son if you are breathing as a slave. God formed man from the dust in Genesis 2:7, but man was still lifeless. Dirt shaped into a frame is still dirt. Identity did not come from formation. It came from the breath. “Then the Lord God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.” He became. That is the miracle of sonship. You become when He breathes.

You can go to church your whole life and never become. You can memorize scripture, tithe ten percent, lead a small group, volunteer in kids church, post daily devotionals, and still never become. You may be informed. You may be shaped. But you are not alive until God breathes. Too many are trying to function in the Kingdom with the breath of yesterday. You cannot walk out a present calling on stale air. You cannot inherit with lungs full of dust.

Let God breathe.

The upper room was filled with 120 who were obedient enough to wait. They had no blueprint. They had no program. They had no idea what Pentecost would look like. They only knew the one who promised it. Acts 2 says, “Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.” This was not a gentle breeze. It was not a whisper of atmosphere. It was the breath of Yahweh reentering man. Jesus had already breathed on the disciples in John 20:22 and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit,” but what He gave them in private He was about to give the church in fullness.

When the Spirit came like a rushing wind, fire sat on each of them. They began to speak in new tongues. Identity was not just whispered in the corner. It was shouted in the streets. Those who had been hiding behind locked doors were now prophesying publicly. Why? Because God breathed. And when He breathes, sons rise. Orphans hide. Sons roar.

We are not lacking knowledge. We are not lacking resources. We are not lacking strategy. We are lacking the presence of the breath. Not because He is unwilling to give it. But because we are too full of our own breath to receive His. We have filled our lungs with anxiety and pride, performance and production. We are trying to manufacture revival instead of becoming His resting place. We are trying to speak before we have been filled.

Let God breathe.

Ezekiel was taken to a valley full of bones. God asked him a ridiculous question: “Son of man, can these bones live?” Ezekiel answered honestly, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” And God told him to prophesy. To bones. To death. To what had no life. Ezekiel 37:7 says, “So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together.” Formation started, but there was still no life. Verse 8 says, “I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.”

You can have the shape of something powerful and still be dead. You can have the appearance of success and still be void of breath. You can rattle and impress and look like an army, but without the breath, you are still a corpse. Then in verse 9, God tells Ezekiel to do something that shifts everything. “Prophesy to the breath.” Speak to the wind. Call the Spirit. “Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.”

And he did.

And they lived.

And they stood up.

And they became a vast army.

What we need is not another religious structure. We need breath. We need the Spirit. We need God to breathe again. Not into a building. Not onto a service. But into sons. Into daughters. Into those willing to throw off the labels and let the wind define them. Let the same breath that hovered over the waters hover over your chaos. Let the same wind that filled the upper room fill your closet. Let the same Spirit that hovered over Mary and caused her to carry God incarnate overshadow you again until you carry resurrection in your bones.

Let God breathe.

We have too many ministries being run by people with no breath in their lungs. Too many sermons preached by men who have not waited in the wind. Too many prophets releasing recycled words from a decade ago. Too many singers trying to stir the room without being stirred by heaven. When God breathes, you do not need fog machines and light shows. When God breathes, people fall on their faces. When God breathes, idols get crushed. When God breathes, trauma loses its hold. When God breathes, demons scream and sons rise.

Romans 8:14 says, “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.” Not those who are led by opinions or emotions or calendars. Those who are led by the breath. That same word Spirit in Greek is pneuma — wind, breath, essence. You are not a son because you attend church. You are not a son because you avoid sin. You are a son when you inhale His breath and follow it wherever it leads. You are a son when your own breath is no longer enough. When you do not want to speak without hearing Him. When you do not want to move unless He is moving. When you become so possessed by His breath that even your sighs become intercession.

The world is groaning for this. Romans 8:19 says, “Creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.” Not the pastors. Not the influencers. Not the religious elite. Sons. The earth is not waiting on another charismatic leader. It is waiting on you to inhale God. It is waiting on you to stop holding your breath in fear and let Him fill you with Himself. It is waiting on you to be still long enough to be overshadowed. It is waiting on you to cry out not for ease or comfort or breakthrough but for breath.

So stop. Right now. Wherever you are. Stop.

And let God breathe.

Let Him breathe over your fear. Let Him breathe into your disappointment. Let Him breathe through your confusion. You do not need answers. You need oxygen. You do not need a five year plan. You need breath in your spirit. The reason you are tired is because you are living off of your own strength. The reason you are anxious is because you are gasping for air that only He can provide. You do not need more teaching. You need the wind. You do not need more clarity. You need to inhale the presence of the One who shaped you.

Let God breathe.

And when He does, become. Stand up. Prophesy. Weep. Shout. Repent. Laugh. Dance. Whatever comes out of you when God breathes, do it. That is what the world needs. A people possessed by breath. A people who have no interest in performing and every interest in being formed by the wind. A people who do not have to manufacture miracles because the Spirit is already there. A people who do not settle for dry bones when the army is just one breath away.

Let God breathe.

You were never meant to live without it. You were not created to function on programs and principles. You were created to be the house of His wind. The dwelling place of His breath. You were formed for breath. You were born for breath. You are here to carry what cannot be controlled.

So let Him breathe. And become.
