The Government of the Spirit

Living Under the Lordship of the Holy Ghost
There is no in between. We are either submitted or rebellious. Either under the Lordship of the Holy Spirit or under the oppression of our flesh and feelings. Sons who try to carry both are confused and ineffective. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. What we need is not more spiritual experiences. What we need is the government of the Holy Ghost.
We talk about the Holy Spirit like He is optional. Like He is a sidekick in the story of our salvation. But He is not an accessory. He is the Lord. Scripture does not call Him our consultant. It calls Him our Lord. And until He becomes that in our daily life we will remain immature sons still crying for pacifiers when He is trying to hand us a sword. He is not our emotional blanket. He is the Spirit of the Living God who leads us into all truth and convicts the world of sin righteousness and judgment. He does not babysit He governs.
The modern church has majored in being comforted by the Spirit but rarely does she move in submission to Him. We have created a culture where the Spirit is welcome as long as He does not disrupt. As long as He moves in the confines of our scheduled services and leaves room for the next item in the program. But when the Holy Spirit truly comes He takes over. He does not partner with control. He overthrows it.
What does it mean to be under the Lordship of the Holy Spirit? It means your steps are not your own. Your preferences are not your compass. Your desires no longer have final say. It means your mind is being renewed daily. It means your will bows. It means you no longer move according to what feels good or makes sense. You move according to what He says. Because when you are under His Lordship you trust Him. You obey Him. You follow Him even when you do not understand.
Romans 8 makes this crystal clear. Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. That is not poetry. That is identity. And it is also confrontation. Because if you are not led by the Spirit you are not functioning as a son. You may be saved. But you are not operating in sonship. Sons obey. Sons trust. Sons yield. And sons inherit.
The Lordship of the Holy Spirit is not reserved for Pentecostal preachers or prophetic voices. It is the birthright of every son and daughter of God. When Jesus ascended He did not leave us alone. He sent the Spirit to fill us and lead us. The church was not born through strategy. It was born through fire. The Spirit did not come as a doctrine. He came as a wind and a flame. And He has not changed.
Too many believers know Jesus as Savior but do not live like He is Lord. And even fewer live like the Spirit is Lord. We sing about surrender but we still demand control. We cry out for the Spirit to come but we are not willing to lose our comfort zones when He does. We want the gifts without the government. The power without the posture. But you cannot move in Kingdom authority without being under the King. And the Holy Spirit is not just the power of God. He is the person of God living inside of you. And He has a government.
Jesus said when the Spirit comes He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own authority but whatever He hears He will speak and He will declare to you the things that are to come. The Spirit does not freelance. He submits perfectly to the will of the Father and the Son. And He calls us to that same posture. Sons who are filled with the Spirit must also be ruled by Him. Because the filling was not just for joy. It was for direction.
The Lordship of the Holy Spirit means your life is not yours. That should not feel threatening. It should feel liberating. Because the moment you gave your yes to Jesus you gave up your right to run your own life. That is not legalism. That is covenant. The cross was not just a rescue mission. It was a surrendering of wills. And Pentecost was not a goosebumps encounter. It was the installation of the government of God within man.
If you say yes to the Holy Spirit but still live however you want you are deceived. If you speak in tongues but refuse correction you are immature. If you want the fire but not the refining you are still selfish. And selfish sons cannot carry the authority of Heaven. Because the Spirit will not share His government with your ego.
This is why Paul constantly refers to the Spirit in terms of leadership and obedience. Walk by the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Set your mind on the things of the Spirit. Put to death by the Spirit the deeds of the body. In every letter Paul ties spiritual maturity to Spirit-led living. Not emotional hype. Not spiritual gifts. But submission to the Spirit’s rule.
There is a reason Jesus called Him the Comforter. Because being under His Lordship will cost you. He comforts those who are yielded. He strengthens those who obey. He upholds those who have lost everything for the sake of the Kingdom. The Spirit is not a life coach. He is the very breath of God breathing the nature of Christ into you. You were not born again to remain in control. You were born again to become a new creation led by a new Master.
This is what the modern church has lost. We teach people to invite Jesus into their heart but never train them to come under the Lordship of the Spirit. We make disciples of church attendance not disciples of obedience. We raise orphans who know they are loved but do not know how to follow. So they stay in cycles of sin while claiming grace. Because they never moved from being comforted by the Spirit to being ruled by Him.
Sons must identify under the Spirit’s government. That means I no longer speak my own opinions when He has spoken clearly. That means I no longer chase my own dreams when He has revealed His assignment. That means I no longer react out of fear or pride but respond in peace and humility. Because the fruit of the Spirit is not emotional noise. It is character. It is evidence of government. You can prophesy and still be undisciplined. You can cast out devils and still not be under His Lordship. But you cannot bear the fruit of the Spirit and remain in rebellion. Fruit is always born under pressure. And pressure reveals what you are submitted to.
Some of us are tired because we have been fighting the Spirit instead of yielding to Him. We are resisting His pruning. We are ignoring His whispers. We are clinging to our schedules and titles and plans and calling it stewardship. But Heaven sees it as rebellion. Because the Spirit does not ask for your opinion. He asks for your surrender.
When you live under the Lordship of the Holy Spirit your life becomes holy ground. Your house becomes an embassy of the Kingdom. Your business becomes a weapon for the Gospel. Your speech becomes seasoned with power. Your authority multiplies because you are under Authority. You do not just carry the Spirit you walk in step with Him. He becomes your Guide your Teacher your Voice your Fire. And you stop asking for permission to obey.
He will tell you to apologize when you were technically right. He will tell you to fast when nobody else is. He will tell you to stay when everything in you wants to run. He will tell you to speak when you want to stay silent. And you will obey. Not because you are afraid. But because you love Him. That is Lordship. Not robotic obedience but love-saturated surrender. A yes that does not expire.
There is a remnant rising who will not be known for their stage presence or their platforms. They will be known by their submission. They will walk in a fear of the Lord that terrifies compromise. They will be led by the Spirit into wildernesses and cities and prisons and revival. They will not just feel the wind. They will follow it. They will not use the Spirit. They will be used by Him. And the world will not be able to explain them. Because they will not be logical. They will be led.
When Stephen stood before the Sanhedrin full of the Holy Ghost and declared the truth with boldness he was not performing. He was submitted. When Peter stood up on Pentecost and preached the Gospel to the same city that crucified his Master he was not guessing. He was being led. When Paul refused to be released from prison so that his jailer might be saved he was not being noble. He was being governed. When Jesus yielded His spirit on the cross and said Father into Your hands I commit My spirit He was showing us the ultimate posture of sonship. Total surrender.
We are not being invited into a lifestyle of religious duty. We are being called into a life of fiery communion with the Spirit of the Living God. A life where obedience is not a burden but a joy. Where His whisper becomes our command. Where our agenda dies at the altar of His will. This is where real authority flows. This is where the Kingdom advances. Through sons and daughters who are not just Spirit filled but Spirit ruled.
The early church had no buildings no budgets no branding. But they had the Spirit. And they turned the world upside down. Because when the Spirit governs the church becomes unstoppable. Not because of our programs. But because of His Presence.
You are not powerless. You are unsubmitted. And the answer is not trying harder. The answer is bowing deeper. It is time to stop playing games with the Spirit. Stop visiting Him and start living under His rule. Stop calling Him friend and ignoring His voice. Stop asking for revival and refusing repentance. Either He is Lord or He is not.
So let this be the line in the sand. Either you come under the government of the Holy Ghost or you keep wandering in the desert of self. But do not pretend you can have both. Sons were never meant to be led by emotions or culture or intellect. We were meant to be led by the Spirit.
Bow your will. Burn your plans. Silence your pride. Let the Spirit speak. Let the Spirit lead. Let the Spirit take over.
Because the earth is not waiting for another sermon. It is groaning for sons. And sons are those who are led by the Spirit of God.
If you feel led to partner with what God is doing through this ministry, we invite you to sow into this work as the Spirit leads. Your generosity helps us continue to share His love and truth with others. There is no obligation, only an opportunity to join in what God is building. Thank you for considering being a part of this journey.
